Helvetia Highlights for December 2005

Thursday, December 1. The Illumination of Helvetia's Holiday Lights. 6:00 p.m. Special thanks to Betty Biggs. Cheese and wine will be served at the Hutte. Kate Weber-Mailloux at the Piano. 7:00 p.m.

Friday, December 2 - Saturday, December 3. The Feast of Sankt Nickolaus celebration will begin Friday around warm fires, winter foods and hot wine. On Saturday morning Zurich-born Peter Schaeffer will begin baking many European holiday traditional cookies and sweets, while his wife, Patricia Schaeffer (in her graceful Mrs. Santa Clause manner) will work with children to bake a holiday favorite of Swiss children called “Grittibaenz” and gilt gingerbreads. As a special treat, Patricia and Peter Schaeffer will also be reading the Sankt Nickolaus story in German and English for the children. Saturday, December 3. Beech Mountain Sportsman Club Meeting. 7:00 p.m.

Saturday, December 3. First Saturday Square Dance. 8:00 p.m. Community Hall. Adults $5. Age 12 and under, $1.

Sunday, December 11. Alpen Rose Club Wreath Making. Volunteers needed. We will be making wreaths and decorating the village with them. Cathy's cake and coffee will be served. If you would like to help, call 924-6435.

Tuesday, December 13. Monthly meeting of the Helvetia Restoration and Development Organization. 7 p.m. at the Helvetia Public Library.

Saturday, December 17. Kate Webber-Mailloux at the piano with Christmas music. Mulled wine will be served. At the Hutte. 7:00 p.m.

Saturday, December 24. Traditional Christmas Eve open house at the Mailloux house.

Saturday, December 31. A traditional New Year's Eve. Fun and dancing. Buffet served. At the Hutte. Ring in 2006 with us!
